As I noticed the other week that my weight was once again creeping up to 10st (not great when you're 5'2), and intrigued by the accounts given off the plan by people on the snopes message board, I finally decided to give Weight Watchers a go. However, since at the moment the joining fee and weekly fee for the meeting is not really cash I have spare I went for a hunt on eBay and found someone selling off their books from when they joined in 2006 - including the journal which had not been used. I had a read through the booklets in the week and had a test run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Today is the first proper day of the diet.
It all looks pretty straightforward really. You have a certain number of Points you're allowed to consume daily which is dependent on your gender, weight, activity levels and age. You can also gain additional Points through exercise. Every food has a points value, and the books I got helpfully list those. The best one is the shopping guide which sorts food by categories and by brand. It seems I can have 17 Points a day, which seemed a very low figure given that the highest amount allowed are 40 and you shouldn't go below 16.
Anyway, the trial days went pretty well, so today I started properly. This includes measurements. Not impressed to discover I have a 21.5" diameter thigh. However I do seem to have dropped a couple of pounds, so cool. I'm not putting that down to three trial days though. So, this means lots more veg, being careful with the snacks, etc, etc. Certainly filling up with veg has been helping so far and while I was a bit peckish yesterday evening I had a carrot and that dealt with that.
It's the exercise thing that will be the problem. :)
