Merlot, Sex and the City, plus the cat

An evening doesn't get more relaxing than this - lying on the futon, glass of merlot to hand, and a cat purring away on my stomach. Mind you, I needed it today.

My plans for a full kitchen reorganisation were thrown for a loop after I got back from running a few errands (almost) first thing and just as I was taking a quick break with a herbal tea just before I set to. Mum rang. She had tried calling my mobile but I didn't have a missed call and the message didn't beep through until after she got hold of me on the landline. It seems my Grandparents' carer didn't show up today and apparently Grandma was panicking. So, shortly after 11am and following a brief stop at Sainsbury's, I arrived at the Grandparents' to find Grandma was perfectly fine.

Spent four hours there, but the weather was crap so I couldn't retreat to the garden to potter around. Instead I did the jobs Mum had put in the book for the carer to look after - cleaning the kitchen and bathroom and doing some ironing, as well as getting their lunch. That was dead easy since Mum had prepared everything aside from the vegetables. I took my own and had a pitta bread pizza plus salad, hence the stop at Sainsbury's. Doing it again tomorrow since it was the same carer lined up she's not going to be sent again. It's simpler if I go rather than trying to find an alternative, especially when the Grandparents didn't seem to keen on the idea of a male carer.

Relaxed for a bit when I got home before deciding to start on the kitchen after all. I had Michael Monroe then Motley Crue on the stereo and got immensely frustrated with the drill. First up it needed recharging - which I discovered after I had already moved a whole load of stuff off the work surface. Great. After it charged for a bit I then had the usual problem of finding that even though I measured where I wanted the holes, the drill doesn't quite co-operate. At least the screws eventually went in okay. I now have a wall mounted microwave, although goodness only knows what the walls in this place are actually made of, they always make drilling very difficult. Got one cupboard sorted as well; the rest can wait until tomorrow afternoon.

I do hope it's decent weather tomorrow, I want to do some gardening.

Still on track with the WeightWatchers. Won't find out until Sunday whether it has actually meant any lost weight, but I don't feel like I'm starving. Went slightly over the daily allowance by having a second glass of merlot this evening, but since I had two bonus points from yesterday that I didn't use that doesn't matter much.

Oh well, since I've got to be at the Grandparents' in the morning I shall have one more smoke, a quick web surf, then head off to bed.
