Goodness, but wildflowers are expensive. For a selection of six wildflowers I paid £9.99 today, but they're now in the garden and the overgrown bed in the corner by the beech hedge is starting to look a bit better. I think I'm going to get some seeds to start some off in the greenhouse ready for planting out later in the year - I want next year's display to look really colourful. The six I got today are a foxglove, kidney vetch, red clover, betony, wild marjoram, and one I can't remember. They should spread reasonably well and they're meant to attract bumblebees too. I suppose I could get the butterfly attracting set as well, but that's going to mean a fair amount of digging to get the bed fully cleared.
Assuming the weather remains decent tomorrow I shall go back to the veg patch and get on with clearing some more. I potted on the second pot of courgettes this evening so we will eventually have five of those to plant out, and the excessive amount of broccoli is still going strong so something will have to be done there too. Right now, I also itch. I think this is due to me discovering where the ants had started making a new nest - in the bag of compost I needed to pot on the courgettes. Eggs and everything. So that bag got emptied over the compost heap which at least means it's out of the greenhouse.
Grandma was in a major flap when I arrived, which meant Grandad was in a foul mood. I have never heard him call her an "old bitch" before. He threatened to stomp his walking frame on her foot, she gave him a shove as he was heading back into the kitchen. Urgh. It's like dealing with a couple of toddlers. Offering tea and cake then retreating to the garden is the only way to keep my head straight. And I get it again in the morning. Yay!
Dad and his wife came over for coffee this morning - they were going to a wedding in town where they hardly knew anyone, and it's at one of the most evangelical, happy-clappy churches we have around here. Haven't heard how it went yet, but I'm willing to bet he hated it. I wonder if the bride and groom gave testimonies?
